CAMMERTM—MORE THAN
JUST A HAMMER

  • Users of 1911 model pistols have long understood that unnecessarily high forces are required to move the slide rearward from a hammer down configuration.
  • At the heart of this problem is a relatively short moment arm (distance from the hammer pivot axis to the point of contact with the firing pin retainer).
  • At long last a solution to difficult racking of the slide is available to every 1911 shooter who may have hand strength issues or may face tactical conditions in which reliable racking can be compromised.
  • Unlike hammers with a conventional flat face, the CAMMER provides the longest possible moment arm and thus the greatest mechanical advantage available.
  • The lowering of initial force required to rack the slide is remarkable and must be experienced to appreciate.

After installing the Cammer Hammer in his personal 1911, Arnel Bernardo, Rock Island’s Master Gunsmith, wrote:

I tested a pistol with CAMMER HAMMER. Recoil reduced because the force on the hammer is on the upper and traditional hammer design is low.  I normally blend FIRING PIN STOP on my custom gun to transfer the contact and the force will be high.  The same logic as CAMMER HAMMER.  I highly recommend this CAMMER HAMMER.

404sear
  • Sear tip maintains constant distance of .404” from sear pin center
  • NEUTRAL ENGAGEMENT with hammer hooks throughout sear movement to release
  • Neither positive/captive (hammer is lifted with sear movement)
  • Nor negative/release (hammer lowers with sear movement)
  • Yields smooth trigger pulls whether hooks are cut at 86 or 90 degrees
  • No need for costly jigs or specialized stoning skills
  • CNC’d by Evolution Gun Works for Cammer Technologies LLC
  • Additional information at www.cammertechnologies.com
  • All arrangements of 1911 sear and hammer hooks involve movement of the sear from beneath the hooks until release
  • The goal is movement that is undetectable to the shooter’s finger
  • Typical sears are stoned with flat primary and (most often) secondary angles
  • These flat-stoned surfaces must move from beneath the flat hooks in an arc about the sear pin center
  • Such configurations cannot achieve a preferred neutral relationship
  • They will be either positive or negative—transitioning most often from one to the other
  • Variables affecting quality of the final trigger pull with the .404” sear—and therefore adjustable by the custom pistol smith are:
    • Height of hammer hooks
    • Smoothness of engagement surfaces
    • Sear spring tension
    • Main spring weight
  • The .404” sear is held in engagement by the forces of friction and sear spring tension
  • Secondary/release angles are not necessary with the .404” sear, but may be added by the custom pistol smith as desired
  • U.S. Ordnance specs call for sear length of .4045” - .003”
